I Must Prosper: Habits That Hinder Prosperity

True prosperity is holistic. It empowers your mind, hands, and feet to succeed, granting you divine direction, peace of mind, and good health. To prosper, there must be spiritual alignment. Stay rooted in the Word of God and obey His instructions: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God…” and “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only…”

As believers, we do not need to prosper at the expense of our neighbours. Those who follow the Lord in spirit and in truth receive creative and innovative ideas from God.

The following are some habits that can hinder prosperity in the lives of believers.

Habits That Hinder Prosperity

Stinginess* (Proverbs 11:24)

Believers are called to be givers. “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” God establishes givers. They not only enjoy financial blessings but also the security of good health and divine guidance.

Pride (Proverbs 16:18) 

Despise not the day of small beginnings.” (Zechariah 4:10). 

Humility and meekness are essential virtues for prosperity. We must approach God with humility and seek His divine direction.

Failure in Tithing and Offering* (Malachi 3:8-10)

Failure in tithing and giving can hinder prosperity, as tithing is a covenant practice. Engage in tithing faithfully, according to the covenant and your current capacity.

Vanity and Laziness (Proverbs 28:19, 

Proverbs 10:4, Ephesians 4:28 ) 

Associating with vain people who lack vision is like the blind leading the blind. The Bible warns against slothfulness and encourages believers to engage in honest work, for God blesses the work of our hands. The Apostle Paul also encouraged the early Church to embrace honest labour rather than dishonest gains (Ephesians 4:28).

Neglecting the Ministers of God*.(Philippians 4:14-19)

The Prophetess explained the blessings attached to supporting and caring for God’s servants. She shared how she has continually reaped the blessings of giving, emphasizing the divine blessings and protection that accompany honouring God’s ministers. 

Not Giving to the Poor* (Proverbs 28:27)

Giving to the needy is a gateway to prosperity. As believers, we are called to be a blessing to our neighbours and to all those in need.

Many things can hinder prosperity, but we must learn to listen to God for divine direction. He speaks to our hearts and through His Word.
